Businesses:
Agriculture is the primary industry in the RM of Moose Jaw. The value-added agriculture processing industry is anchored by operations such as Cargill, Simpson Seeds, and Pasqua Farms and McDougall Acres Ltd. 15 Wing Moose Jaw adds to the diversity of the local economy as the Air Base is home to not only the Snowbirds but also to the internationally renown NATO Flying Training in Canada Program. The NFTC program instructs pilots from the UK, Italy, Denmark, and Singapore along with Canadian pilots. The RM also hosts a large asphalt manufacturer which is supplied with raw materials through a pipeline. There are other pipelines running through the RM that supply the province with natural gas.
Within 30 kilometers of the RM of Moose Jaw exits three large businesses – Kalium Chemicals, Saskferco, and Terra Grain Fuels Ethanol Plant.
In 2007 the RM had 4 new businesses start: Simpson Seeds expansion, Best Buildings, Signature Truss and Reactive Designs. Along with the addition of new business oil and gas exploration in 2007 resulted in 8 oil and/or gas wells being drilled.

Recreation:
Buffalo Pound Provincial Park and Nicole Flats Nature Area are excellent places to enjoy recreation and nature. Both parks are accessible within the RM of Moose Jaw. Buffalo Pound Provincial Park is an ideal location for year ‘round recreation. Visitors to the park experience summertime fun with windsurfing, water skiing, sailing, canoeing, kayaking, mountain biking, fishing, swimming, and hiking. Over 200 sites are available for camping.
During the winter visitors can experience cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, ice fishing, and snowshoeing, and skating. You can also downhill ski at White Track Ski Area; rentals are available.
Wakamow Valley – “the river of turns” is located in the RM of Moose Jaw. The RM is partnered with the City of Moose Jaw and province in the effort to keep the developments of the park progressing. Wakamow Valley is a beautifully treed valley which offers nature lovers 365 hectares of a wide variety of trees, plants and wildlife. Everything from marsh land to cactus growth is within the valley.

Subdivision and Rezoning:
The RM is open to rezoning land to encourage residential subdivision development. In 2007 Saskatchewan experienced an increased number of homes built, the greatest since 1983. This was a 64 per cent increase since 2006 which was the strongest gain among any province in 15 years [CMHC http://www.ir.gov.sk.ca/BU%20Summer%202007]. The RM also experience an increase in construction with 19 building permits issued compared to 9 permits in 2006.
Over the past few years there has been an increased development of homes in the Valley Ridge Estates. Due to lower taxes in the RM and a different life style, residents in Moose Jaw and people moving to Moose Jaw are looking for acreages.
Transportation Infrastructure:
The RM of Moose Jaw has access to global markets with a robust transportation infrastructure. Transportation is key to any manufacturing or processing business and
a good transportation network is required to deliver products to the customers. The Rural Municipality of Moose Jaw is ideally situated in North America to transport goods to any marketplace around the world.
Key transportation links in the region include:
- Major railway links to the Canadian ports of Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal and Halifax.
- Direct railway link to the U.S. cities of Minneapolis and Chicago via the Soo Line, this line is wholly owned and operated by Canadian Pacific Railway.
- Located on 3 major highways; TransCanada Highway 1, Highway #39 to the North Portal border crossing and Highway #2 connecting to northern routes.
- Air transportation is provided by Moose Jaw Airport and the Regina International Airport located 70km/43mi
The RM has many roads which are paved and those that are not paved are maintained throughout the year with graders leveling and maintaining the grids.
Access to water and natural gas is not a problem when setting up businesses in the RM. There are 9 water pipe lines running throughout the RM and natural gas can be brought into your business.
Property Tax:
The mill rate in the RM of Moose Jaw is over 5 times lower than the mill rate of the City of Moose Jaw. In 2007 the mill rate of Moose Jaw was 20.99 where the mill rate in the RM of Moose Jaw was 3.9. The difference in business tax equates to increased equity when operating in the RM.
